The local taste of Faridabad
During the 1960s when the Green revolution of India started promoting the agricultural production, Haryana was one of the states that displayed the highest impact. Faridabad, being a part of this revolution, incorporated vegetables and vegetable-dishes more in its platter.
In the following section, we will discuss the popular food of Faridabad.
Hara Dhaniya Cholia
It is a regional dish, popular in entire Haryana, which uses green chickpeas as the main ingredient. Rest of the country generally uses dried chickpeas for making dishes, but in Haryana, you will find this dish prepared from fresh green chickpeas. Along with local spices, green coriander is also integral to this dish.
People eat it as an evening snack or as a vegetable side-dish with rice or chapati.
Alsi ki Pinni
It is a healthy sweet dish of the region, prepared with alsi or flaxseed. Wheat flour, sugar, ghee, dry fruits along with flaxseed is rolled into balls and served with meals. You can also find a variant of this dish in Punjab.
Besan Masala roti
It is a flatbread made from gram flour with ample spices. One just doesn’t need any side-dish to accompany the roti, as it is in itself so flavorful. But locals eat it with pickles or raita (a yogurt with spices).
Chaaj
Chaaj is a buttermilk with cumin powder and salt. It is the favourite drink of the locals, which also serves as a coolant for scorching summer heat.
Malpua
Malpua is an Indian dessert made from flour, fermented, deep fried and soaked in sugar syrup. As Haryana is also rich in milk and dairy production, it is often complemented with Rabri- milk condensed by stirring over a high flame.
