Mumbai is a melting point of culture. This metropolitan city is known for its fast paced life but it stands still during religious processions.

Siddhivinayak temple

Location: – SK Bole Marg, Prabhadevi, Mumbai.
Timings:-This temple is open on all days of the week. Timings for Wednesday to Monday are 5:30 am to 10 pm and Tuesday from 3:15 to 10pm.

The word siddhi in Sanskrit translates to perfection, vinayak on the other hand translates to lord ganesha-the elephant headed god in Indian mythology. Thus the name was created ganesha-the perfectionist.This temple is mainly dedicated to lord Ganesh.

This temple is one of the most important landmarks of Mumbai. According to legends, this temple is known to fulfil wishes and desires of the devotees. This beautifully constructed temple was founded in the year 1801 by Laxman Vithu and Devbhai Patil. The temple is among the Ashtavinayak temples in Maharashtra. Other name of Siddhivinayak temple is Navasacha ganapati and Navasala Pavanara Ganapati.
Due to different timings on Tuesdays devotees throng this temple at Tuesday to get blessings from the arati performed. The idol of ganesha is placed on a small mandap.

The most distinguishing feature of the Ganesha idol placed in this temple, that makes this temple different than others is the is that its trunk is on the right side whereas trunk of almost all other Ganesha idol is on the left side.
The idol is medium sized with four hands holding an axe, a lotus, a bowl of modaks and prayer beads. This temple also features statue of Ganesha’s ride that is Mushak and hanumans temple in its periphery.
Many of People believe in the notion that if you whisper your wishes into the ears of the mushak, it will surely come true one day.

Siddhivinayak temple, as per current scenario is Mumbai’s richest temple. It is said that the temple receives up to 100 million rupees as donation annually. This temple boasts of a unique architectural style.

The roof of the sanctum is pure gold plates and the doors have images of Ashtavinayaka carved in them. This temple is very popular among celebrities, many Bollywood actors like Big B, Visit Siddhivinayak temple before their movie’s release and for the good year ahead. It is said that Tim cook, before beginning his day in India visited this temple.

Babulnath Temple

Location: – Babulnath Road, Charni Road, Malabar Hill, Near Chowpatty, Mumbai
Timings:-This temple is open on all days of the week. Timings are 5:00 am to 10 pm and on Mondays it is open for longer durations of time.

This wonderful temple of Mumbai, is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva-one of the lord of trinity in Hindu mythology. This temple is located just a few minutes’ drive from Girgaon Chowpatty.

This temple is one of the most famous and rich temples of Mumbai. The flawless architecture and the interiors of the temple is a pleasant sight to behold. This temple will remind you of Mount kailash-Lord Shiva’s abode.
The idol and the Shiv Lingam of Babulnath temple was sanctify by King Bhimdev II in the 12th century. Five idols were unearthed during the period 1700-1780. Out of these, one was immersed in the sea as it was broken. The remaining 4 artefacts (idols) – the Shiv Lingam, Hanuman, Ganesha and Parvati were placed in the temple.

As this temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, People flock to this temple on Monday as this day of the week is dedicated to Shiva and that’s the reason for it to remain open for a longer duration on Mondays. On mahashivaratri festival, lakhs of devotees visits this temple.
