How to reach Belur Math

Belur Math is a headquarter of the Ramakrishna Mission. It was founded by Swami Vivekananda with an aim to train his disciples in the mission’s philosophy. Belur Math has a  peaceful aura and people can find calm here. In this read, we bring to you the possible routes to reach Belur Math.

Belur is only about 50 minutes drive from Kolkata, West Bengal.

You can easily reach Kolkata via airways, train, or roadways. Well, if you wish to cover more sightseeing places in West Bengal and indulge in their cuisine, we suggest to follow the road route.

Reaching Belur from Kolkata

Via Train-

You can take Metro Rail from Park Street Metro Station in Kolkata to the DumDum Metro station. You will have to switch train from Dumdum station and take local train to Dakshineswar. After you reach Dakshineswar, you can take a shared motor boat.

It becomes kind of tedious to sync with the train timings and communicating with locals if you need any suggestion regarding the route. Plus it takes more time and money. Alternatively, you can take an intercity cab from Kolkata to Belur.

Via Road-

Here is the shortest and fastest route to follow-

  1. Take Mahatma Gandhi Rd and Rabindra Setu to Dobson Rd/Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Rd in Gulmohar Railway Quarters, Howrah. Continue driving for 22 minutes (4.5 kilometers).
  2. Take Grand Trunk Rd to Belur Math Rd in Belur. Drive 5.4 kilometers. The route has lesser traffic, so you can cover the distance in about 23 minutes.
  3. Follow Belur Math Rd to Belur Math Campus. You can reach the Belur Math in next 2 to 5 minutes.

You can also book taxi from different cities of India to reach Kolkata. If you have family and luggage, then cab ride to Kolkata can be the most reasonable option.
