Taking care of your mental fitness
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, our country introduced measures to restrict movement as part of efforts to prevent community spread . We are subjected to making huge changes to our daily routines. Working from home is one of them. Also, managing the fear of contracting the virus and worrying about people close to us are challenging for all of us.
Fortunately, there are few things we can do to look after our own mental health. Moreover, it might be of help others who may need some extra support and care. Let’s have a look at some of them:
Keep yourself informed
Pay attention to advice and recommendations from your national and local authorities. Follow trusted news channels and keep updated with the latest news from WHO.
Have a routine is necessary for mental fitness
Keep up with daily routines as far as possible. Here are some that might be of help:
- Get up and go to bed at similar times every day.
- Maintain personal hygiene.
- Eat healthy meals at regular intervals.
- Workout regularly.
- Allot time for working and time for resting.
Maintain mental contact
Try and keep in regular contact with people close to you by calling them up, indulging in face-time or any other online channels.
Slow down on news feeds
Measure the amount of news you are exposed to. Too much involvement might make you feel anxious. Keep yourself posted with the latest information only during a specific time of the day.
Screen time
Take note of how much time you are spending in front of a screen everyday. Don’t mind to take regular breaks from on-screen activities.
Keep track of social media activities
Use your social media accounts to promote positive stories. Don’t forward messages unnecessarily to create panic if the source of the information is not reliable enough. Correct misinformation wherever you come across.
Extend your helping hand
Please offer support to people in your community, whoever may need it, by helping them with food shopping etc., if you are able to.
Also, take a small opportunity in thanking your country’s health-care workers and all those working to respond to COVID-19.
