There is no direct airport in Nainital. The nearest is the Pantnagar airport but it entertains charter planes mostly.

The nearest railway station from Nainital is located at Kathgodam, which is about 35 kilometers far. From this station, you can hire a taxi or local transport to reach Nainital. If you prefer railway journey, we suggest keeping warm clothes as you can feel the cool breeze as soon you approach Kathgodam.
Reaching Nainital by road
You can travel via private tour or government-owned buses towards Nainital. There are options like deluxe, semi-deluxe, Volvo buses and a number of tour operators offer daily bus services in this route.
Self-driving or renting a tourist car is also a good idea to reach Nainital. The city is connected with National Highway 87 (NH 87) and there is a number of eateries and halting places en route.
A word of caution: you may encounter several uphill drives, which could be nauseating to many travelers. So be aware of the fact and keep the medicines with you on your Nainital tour.
