Dussehra(October 2-11)
Called by various names like Navaratri, The festival is celebrated across the country but holds more prominence in the North. The Nine day festival largely celebrates the triumph of good over evil as well as propitiating the Mother Goddess in her various manifestations such as Lakhsmi, Swarasati and Durga. It’s a seven day celebration in the lovely Kullu Valley of Himachal Pradesh and consecrated for seven days and around it celebrations are organized. On the last day a pile of thrones is set ablaze, symbolizing the burning of Lanka, A prominent event in the Ramayana.

The Mysore Dasara celebrations go back hundreds on years are entranced in Royal history . The city is decked up, musical and dance performances are held along with food fests and air shows, and a massive fair take place in the Dasara ground. All of it culminates in a grand procession caparisoned elephants, horses, vintage cars and a magnificent torchlight parade.
