The ‘Golden City’ of Rajasthan is nestled in the heart of the Thar desert and derives its name after the founder of the city, Maharawal Jaisal Singh, who established it in 1156 AD. Jaisalmer typically means ’the hill Fort of Jaisal’ and once famously known as the sleepy desert city, it has now become one of the major tourist destinations in India.
Being a desert city, summer is not a suitable season to visit Jaisalmer due to the hot and humid climate. However, the best time to visit the city is from October to February, when the sun is not too fiery or intense and the climate is from moderate to cool.

Jeep safari is also very popular where trained drivers take the tourists to a ride along the dunes of the desert in jeeps and the twirly journey leaves you with an overwhelmed feeling.
