Less known than Digha, Mandarmani is where those who are looking for a quick, quiet break from the seemingly ceaseless chaos of Kolkata should head for some R&R. This small beach town  that has recently begun attaching the attention of travelers in the region, lies 180 km from the metropolis and is ideal for a shoet weekend getaway. Mandarmani is known specially for is long beach –some 13 km –that is entirely walk-able and stakes a claim to being the longest stretch of this sort in the country. Walking alone the beach is certainly one of the high points of a Mandarmani holiday. You should, however check about when the tide comes in before you should set out on this adventure to avoid getting stranded in the water. Expect much of the action in Mandarmani to revolve around the beach. There are some water-sports available here as well, and you can test your jet-skiing skills if you wish. Else hop into a banana boat and take a gentle ride, skimming the waves. Visitors to Mandarmani also make it a point to catch the spectacular sunrises here.

The famous red crabs that scuttle across the sands are another unique aspect of this beach. There’s lot ofs of good seafood to be had here and you can eat pretty well in the local restaurants.

If you want to take a  short trip from her, then drive to Digha, the popular beach destination, and pick in some more surf and sand time here. Shankarpur is another beachside town that can be reached from  here.
