Northeast Diaries E01 : Kaziranga National Park
A name prominent for its conservation of the famous one-horned Indian Rhinoceros, the Kaziranga National Park has achieved global accreditation for representing itself as a single large established protected area for wildlife habitat. Spread over the districts of Nagaon and Golaghat of the state of Assam the KNP is bounded by the mighty Brahmaputra River on the north and the verdant hills of Karbi Anglong on the south. Standing as an example for the rest of the world as a symbol for the evolution and the evolution and the development of the plant and animal community, this wildlife park was inscribed as one of the World Heritage Site by the UNESCO-IUCN.
The KNP holds the milestones in having –

- Highest ecological density of Tigers.

- Junction for the East Asian/Australian and the Indo-Asian avifaunal species.
Even when constraints of flood, erosion, habitat degradation, poaching activities and crop raiding is eating up the aesthetic beauty of this wildlife hub, the management staffs along with the support of government institutes are giving their best efforts to maintain the impression of this site and support the wildlife.
The British Royal Famil especially Prince William and Dutchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton are taking up serious concerns for the wildlife protection in KNP
Located in the heart of Assam and undisturbed by human presence within the premises, the KNP is 230 Kms away from the state capital Guwahati, 90 Kms far from Jorhat and Kms from Tezpur on the other side of the Brahmaputra River. The National Highway – 27 makes the national park easily accessible for the tourists coming here and the availability of cottages and tourism bungalows adds serenity to your stay at this Heritage Site.
With some new projects – Park biodiversity enhancements, late day exploratory elephant safaris, River cruise in the Brahmaputra, other wilderness exploration tours and new booking options available over the internet; the KNP has starting luring in more visitors in comparison to its past. With a blend of wildlife such as here the visit to Kaziranga will never fade out of your memories with its majestic beauty whispering in your ears to come again.
Open for the public from 1st November to 30th April, the park welcomes the touring society for a continuous stretch of 6 months unless some events of inconvenience show up in between. At times of habitat census, the park remains closed for the people. Depending on the weather and road conditions, the park may be also open on the months of October and May.
